Entrepreneurship – The Bondage of Reason

When it comes to realising our goals and dreams..

And creating a business and life we truly love.

One thing is vital to our success.

Our abandonment of self to our vision and to what our heart desires.

Because until we do, we’re going to be victim to our logic, reasoning, beliefs and old ways of thinking and doing.

All of which are based upon the past and on what’s already known.

And to the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever realised what their heart truly desired through logic and reason.

Or by allowing their decisions to be determined by logic, past or current circumstances or even by others’ opinions.

Visions and dreams of the heart are realised in one way only.

By falling in love with them.

By surrendering to them and following our heart.

Surrendering to the unknown future without needing to know how.

Achieving big goals is NOT a head game.

When we surrender, we become ‘inspired’ by our vision.

And immediately feel, believe and behave differently.

And are literally moved to take the action required of us.

The world also moves to meet us. (See Quantum mechanics / physics for more 🤯).

The word “inspired” means “in the spirit of”…..

And if we’re caught up in logic and reasoning, it invariably means we’re ‘in the spirit’ of where we are today and our thinking and actions therefore driven by the past / present and not our vision.

Shifting to being inspired by our vision versus our past is a subtle emotional and mental move…

But it’s one we can do immediately and at anytime and which LEADS US TO create dramatically different outcomes.

“What would we really love to achieve this year?” is a much, much, much better question to ask than “how much more do we think we can do this year than last?” or “how much do we think is possible?”

Abandoning ourself to our vision frees us from the BS stories, lies, limitations and conditions of the mind… it frees us from our history and provides a blank canvas.

Without this, we’re inevitably subject to BS mental stories and believing they’re true or real…. despite the fact that the only place they exist is in our mind.

Being inspired by our vision frees us to be led and moved by the wisdom of our true unconditioned self.

This is true Self-Leadership.

We become response-able and flow, joy, ease, creativity, fulfilment, speed, synchronicities and effortlessness are all expressions and outcomes of Self-Leadership.

Self with a Capital ‘S’, not a small ‘s’.

Much as we may try to, nobody reasons or logics or intellectualises their way to a big vision or dream!

They’re moved.

Inspired.

Inspired by a willingness to surrender their heart to something greater than what’s yet known.

It’s a union.

I believe entrepreneurship is the ultimate spiritual journey.

One in which continued success requires a continued surrender to what our heart desires next.

And not to what makes sense or to what’s practical, reasonable or ‘realistic’.

Or to what the mind is fearful of.

Entrepreneurship and winning the game of life require continued faith in an as yet unseen reality. It requires heart, spirit and courage.

The emotional embracement of a vision without needing to know how.

Trusting – and knowing – that how is always and can only be made known to us when we take the leap of faith.

And, provided we’re willing to continue surrendering, it’s a journey which is wonderfully rewarding too…

Not just for the rollercoaster ride and the heart-opening but because we experience the truth that what we remain true to in spirit is faithfully expressed.

We don’t even need to believe this.

All we need is to be willing to believe…

And, if we need convincing, a willingness to look to our past can help us see just how true this is.

We can see how we’ve always been moved by our faith in something!

And as a mentor of mine once told me:

“Rob, your only problem is you’ve more faith in your doubts and fears than you have in your goals!”

And he was right too!

The truth is we only ever get stuck when we allow ourselves to become more inspired by what we don’t want or are afraid of than by our vision or dreams.

It’s why it’s so important to have a vision for what we’d truly love as opposed to pursuing what we believe will allay our fears or bring us security and safety.

That never works because if we’re not in love, we’re in reason and convenience.

Huge difference!

Attempting to think or logic our way to a better future without opening our heart to it in the present is not a formula for creating the future we truly desire.

Because it means we’re not in ‘creation’ mode.

We’re in ‘reaction’ mode.

Same letters, different order.

Problem solving mode and ‘how to’ thinking modes are re-active.

Admittedly, they still create – they just don’t create anything new!

So we just ‘re-act’ a familiar scene!

We’ve got to go in heart and mind to our vision… which is not the same as trying to solve or fix a problem or get away from the unwanted.

Using logic and reason to realise our dreams is like trying to get a kite to fly by pushing at the strings.

Or by running in the opposite direction in an attempt to get the kite into the air…

Because there’s not enough wind.

Without wind, kite flying just isn’t much fun.

It’s dull, hard work and disappointing.

Kites need wind to fly properly and our businesses, lives and dreams do too.

Without spirit, business becomes hard work and effort instead of being fun, creative, freeing and exciting.

How much wind (spirit) our dreams are given, where we fly to and how high is entirely dependent on how willing we are to open our hearts.

Not to the wanting of our dreams but to the fulfilment of them.

Opening our hearts requires courage and a willingness to abandon logic, reason and perhaps most scarily, our current concept of self.

It requires a leap into the unknown and being ok with uncertainty.

It’s a skill…… blending art and science…..

I believe it’s the most important skill there is to learn in life, let alone in business.

Because we’re here for the adventure of a human lifetime.

And we come alive when we open our heart to newness and possibility and follow it.

Literally.

And conversely, we crush and dampen our own spirit when we place our faith in logic and reason and the ‘facts’ or fears.

We crush our heart because logic and reason are fear-based.

There’s no truth in logic and reason. They’re just beliefs!

Using them to drive our future is founded in seeking control and safety.

But control is an illusion in itself.

It’s a powerful one for sure but how can we ever have control over anything?

Logic and reason say we can of course! But it’s not true…. There’s no truth in logic and reason!

Can you know for sure what’s going to happen between now and you finishing reading this email?

You can guess and you’re likely to be correct but you can’t know for sure and you definitely can’t control what shows up next.

The desire for control comes from fear and from the mind, not from the heart.

The need for control and safety steals dreams, stops us saying yes and holds us back from living and creating as our heart wants to live and create.

Of course, plan for the future and have a safety net if we want to…. but what use is a safety net or the desire for one if we never allow ourself to get off the ground in the first place?

Who gets to the end and says I’m so glad I played so safely instead of allowing myself to really fall in love with my dream and be led by the wisdom of my heart?

Who gets to the end being grateful for having had more faith in their mind and their fears, logic and reason than in their heart?
