So many people live life like it's a WAR.
One of hard work, long hours, trying harder, busyness, pushing, stressing.
Head filled with worries, doubts, fears. Body filled with anxiety.
(I know I did...... for decades!)
Creating the changes we really want in life or business is really a GAME.
A game of becoming.
Because the order of play is BE > DO > HAVE; not the other way around.
There’s a big clue in the word ‘Behave’.
To HAVE and experience different, we’ve got to BE different FIRST.
And yes, to BE different, we’re most likely going to have to BE a little uncomfortable for a while.
(But not in the way we might think).
Being different to experience different really depends on ONE thing more than anything else.
On thinking differently.
Thinking differently about ourselves, about who we are, about what we're capable of and what we really want.
There's no other way.
Muhammad Ali knew this.
He understood winning in the ring started and finished in the mind.
He truly understood mind games!
By his own admission he said: “I am the greatest” long before he ever knew he was...
And long before the evidence showed up.
(There's also a clue in the word BE-FORE).
Even today Ali is still referred to as The Greatest Of All Time.
The truth is, if we really want what we think we want, the only person we need to convince is ourself.
And we do this best by getting serious about the concept of ourself we wish to hold and express.
Which leads to BEING disciplined about the one and only thing we each have complete control and freedom over.
What and how we think.
Because nobody can cause us to think anything we don't want to think.
It's entirely up to us and the thing is.....
We can never experience abundance if we're constantly thinking thoughts of lack.
We can never experience it being easy if we're always thinking thoughts of difficulty.
We can’t keep telling ourself (and others) the old story and expect to live a new one.
Because the rules of the GAME stipulate that we become and experience what we think about!
Yes, we can always create excuses. Yes, we can always point to things outside of us as being the cause.
We can always choose blame or allow our thinking to be driven by our current situation or by our past.
BUT how does that serve us to create what we want?
If we're finding more excuses than reasons...
If we’re blaming circumstances, other people, our history, the economy, other things or ourselves; we might just want to stop and have a proper THINK.
To think whether we REALLY do want what we think we want.
Or whether we just think we do.
Because getting what we really want is dependent on changing our thinking and this requires commitment and discipline...
It also requires the rejection of our old stories and a rejection of the lies we've bought into about ourselves and about who we are and what we're capable of....
Changing our thinking also requires us to have a compelling reason..
Which is knowing what it is we really want.
A compelling Vision for our future.
A vision with it’s own gravitational pull.
Because we’ll never change our thinking without one. Or at least not for long enough. It's too hard!
Simply attempting to move away from what’s unwanted is way too hard.
We’ve got to find our why and we've got to fuse with it so it literally pulls us towards it.
Otherwise it feels like we're always pushing. And that feels like WAR. Only nobody's handing you a medal for your bravery.
Or not whilst you're alive.
When we learn how to 'think' FROM our Vision BEFORE the evidence shows up - just as Muhammad Ali did - it fuels us and drive us.
It fuels us and pulls us when things on the outside don’t yet reflect our wants and desires.
Because what the things on the outside reflect is our old way of thinking. Our old stories, beliefs and assumptions.
So, there's a gap to be bridged.
But when we learn to think from our goals, something magical happens.
We find our new thinking leads to new BEHAVIOUR and the new behaviour leads to new results.
New behaviour driven by our vision and not by where we are today.
So what's game changing is to learn how to WIN on the inside first.
To turn the war within into a GAME within.
When we win on the inside, we get to bring on our success story on the outside.
What's truly game changing is to learn that it can NEVER work the other way around.
Try as we might. Fight as we may fight.
